Jeans for Genes...Second Time Around!

Jeans for Genes, one of the events organised by THESE GENES sickle-cell project, was a huge success first time round! With Fashion houses like Beampeh, Byge and My Q exhibiting, and artistes like Etcetera, M.I, Sage, MP and Bez performing, Jeans for Genes provided entertainment, awareness, and a platform!
This year, JEANS FOR GENES is back! And this time, as a teeshirt party!
Just remember, teeshirt + music = JEANS FOR GENES 2; Teeshirt Party!
Jeans for Genes 1 held at Swe Bar, and the swanky bar is once again, proving its commitment to giving back and supporting the arts, by hosting the event this year! So come March 27th 2010, Lagos will once again, celebrate fashion (teeshirts), music, and a disorder that affects every family in Nigeria!
Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects red blood cells. People with sickle cell disease have red blood cells that contain mostly hemoglobin* S, an abnormal type of hemoglobin. Sometimes these red blood cells become sickle-shaped (crescent shaped) and have difficulty passing through small blood vessels.

When sickle-shaped cells block small blood vessels, less blood can reach that part of the body. Tissue that does not receive a normal blood flow eventually becomes damaged. This is what causes the complications of sickle cell disease. There is currently no universal cure for sickle cell disease.
THESE GENES is a sickle-cell project which seeks to create awareness about the disorder through events, publications and appearances.
JEANS FOR GENES is an awareness based event, but money will be raised at the event to help a lady living with sickle-cell and currently suffering complications from an operation, with her hospital bills.
While the final list of designers and performers has not yet been released, houses like TONI PAYNE, OUCH, and 5VE, and artistes like LOOSE KAYNON, SKUKI, WILLY BANG, DIPP, and LAMI, have already stated their commitment to the event!
